Tips to Carve Chinese Sacred Lily Bulbs

Chinese Sacred Lily belongs to daffodil family like "Paper white". It offers much more beauty with a yellow center and frangrance. The photo on the left shows a beautifully carved blooming bulb.

1. Start cutting from approximately HALF inch above the root with bulb pointing toward you.
2. Cut about half inch deep along the face of the bulb first. Increase the depth later if needed.
3. Trim the scales off either from top down to or bottom up from the line just cut, until
4. You see the hidden leaves wrapped by the scales. Be very CAREFUL at this point, do NOT hurt the flower buds because a flower bud could be inside each visible leaf.
5. Use either the blade or the other end of the knife (special bulb carving knife is recommended. Please contact us.) to cut open the leaf wrapping scales very slowly till you see each flower bud. Keep trimming the scales on both sides of the bud until the whole thing is half out. Leave the other half in the scale.
6. To make curving leaves, cut about 1/3 to 1/2 out, the more, the curlier, but don't cut off more than 1/2.
7. To make curving stems, use knife to scratch the stem a little bit. Cutting too much will cause the flower to grow into the water.
8. Punch lightly the stem a few times, using the tip of the knife.

10. Change water everyday for about 5 days, then
11. Prepare a nice shallow vase, put in the bulb and make water the same level as the roots. Decorate with rocks, gravels, etc. around the bulb as you wish.
12. Change water every 3 days till it blooms--a beautiful artwork is ready for you to enjoy!

At room temperature, it takes about 4 weeks to bloom, the warmer, the quicker, but make sure below 75 F. Warm water speeds up blooming. Sunlight makes narcissus happy and healthy.
